New Democrats are proud to congratulate Quebec writer and director Philippe Falardeau, as well as producers Kim McCraw and Luc Déry, for the Oscar nomination of Monsieur Lazhar for Best Foreign Language Film.

This is the second consecutive year that a Quebec director has been up for an Academy Award. Last year, Denis Villeneuve was honoured for his film Incendies, which was also produced by McCraw and Déry.

The film received several awards in Canada and abroad, including Best Canadian Film by the Toronto Film Critics Association, Best Canadian Feature at the Toronto International Film Festival, as well as two awards at the Locarno International Film Festival. The picture has also been nominated for nine Genie Awards.

New Democrats will have their fingers crossed for Philippe Falardeau and his team during the Oscar ceremony on February 26 in Los Angeles.  The nomination of this film highlights the true talent of artists in this country and how they shine here and abroad.
